Ann Pennington, “The prettest Ziegfeld Follies dancer” was called “Tiny”. She was less than 5 foot tall, wore 1 & ½ size shoes, She had dimpled knees and was a great dancer.
Ann was one of “The Shake and Quiver dancers” and became famous for her rendition of the Black Bottom Charleston. Her dance stopped the show when appearing in Ziegfelds 1913 Follies.
Ann was an amazing dancer and could tap dance as well as any of the male performers.
She was a Gold Digger Girl and was featured in many of George White’s Scandals (1919-1926) and The Passing Show of 1915. Ms Pennington appeared in many films from 1916 to 1942. She was in The Great Ziegfeld filmed in 1935. She starred in the Mad Dancer (1925) and also appeared nude in this silent film.
Fanny Brice became her best friend after they worked together for Ziegfeld.
